A while ago, my ex-roommate and I went wake boarding for the first. His uncle actually owns a wake boarding school called Surf-Thirty in San Diego. I got to try out for free because I was a friend. It was pretty dang awesome and it was a really fun 30 minutes that I had. Not only that I got to wakeboard but cruising along the San Diego bay was really fun as well.
We woke up early and started at about 6am. The water was sub-zero. My friend went first and he was pretty good so now I was even more nervous. I’m that one kid in gym class who’s always the worst and get picked last, so I was really self-concious about this especially in front of 5 to 6 people that I didn’t know.
However, I was surprised that I managed to stand up pretty quickly but keep standing up was the harder part. Although I had a great time and got a good 3 minutes run one time, I definitely was the worst person in the group that went together that day.
I fell in love with it almost immediately, nothing is quite like surfing through the surface of water as if you’re just flying. I’ve always seen videos of people doing crazy tricks with a wakeboard on YouTube. Thanks GoPro commercial, and they look so much easier than real life. Oh, yes, I did fall multiple times and usually my face first.
I have to say that wake boarding is an expensive sport to try and keep up, and it was really lucky of me to get to try for free this time. I wish I could keep up but it was my first and last so far. Even deals online is out of my price range right now.
Now, enough with the pathetic pictures of my trying to wake board and here are some real deal.
Oh and this is completely irrelevant, but this video is amazingly cool. It’s the best slip and slide I’ve ever seen. Human Slingshot is now on my life list.
