The water that falls right into the ocean: McWay Falls

From the iconic and classy Hearst Castle to rugged hiking trails, the HWY 1 is packed with amazing places for all the road trippers to see. One of the most well known and beautiful stops is the McWay falls located in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park near the town of Big Sur. Right at the half way point between Los Angeles and San Francisco, McWay falls is the perfect place to stop and stretch.

Overview

GPS Coordinates: 36.158784, -121.670540

Parking: There are limited parking in the park but during busy summer weekends, you will most likely park along the HWY 1 and walk down to the park entrance.

Getting There: Enter the Julia Burns state park, which is on the east side of the hwy 1. The sign is obvious. You will take a short stroll on a trail that goes under the highway and leads you to a great viewing spot of the waterfall.

  1. One of my favorite places! You had excellent lighting – often we seem to visit when the Falls are in shadow. Nice!

What do you think about this cool place?
