This beautiful resting place of many men and women who have served on the U.S. military forces is located at Point Lomo Peninsula of San Diego just about 30 minutes outside of Downtown. Whether you’re going to visit Cabrillo National Museum or the Sunset Cliff, I recommend that you spend a little time here to pay respect to those who have served and died. I do not know anyone or related to anyone in the military, but as a citizen of the world, I still choose to come here to pay a little respect, and it reminds me of how unwanted wars are.

What
Aside from the fact that it is a cemetery, Fort Rosecrans has to be one of the prettiest places you’ll ever get to visited. It is right on a cliff on the Point Loma Peninsula of San Diego. You will get to see a pretty awesome view of the city of San Diego from here and because it faces the ocean, Fort Rosecrans is also a great place to come see the sunset. As the sun drops into the horizon, its beaming light sparkles on the ocean surface and cast shadow through the tombstones. It has to be one of the most memorable sunsets I’ve ever seen. If you’re seeking a place to watch beautiful sunset in San Diego, you definitely need to check out Fort Rosecrans.
Fort Rosecrans has been the resting place for veterans since 1945. The last time I was there, they were undergoing a pretty big reconstruction, so if you visit, remember to let me know how to looks because I’m sure it will be even more beautiful that in the pictures I’ve taken here. Also, I heard that every memorial day, the City of San Diego hosts a pretty big celebration in honor of veterans here at Fort Rosecrans, and it will be a wonderful celebration for you to be part of.
This place is free to visit. It is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30 and 5:00pm on weekends. However, when I visited was much later, probably around 6 or 7 during the summer to see sunset, so I think that it is okay for you to stop by later. You shouldn’t have any problem with patrols or anything.
Directions
Getting here is super easy and you can just simply type in Fort Rosecrans on Google Maps and it should take you to the right place. If you’re not sure, it is the same direction going to Cabrillo National Monument at the tip of Point Loma Peninsula, and Fort Rosecrans is only about a mile before you get to Cabrillo Monument. The entrance will be on your right and there will be a couple of signs that you let you know when it gets close. There’s no parking, so you will just need to pull over and park on the street.

One Cool Thing Every Weekend 
Ahhh. perfect for the Veteran Day week. I’ve been here and visited in complete silence. Working with the military, I definitely paid my tribute. And, it’s actually has the better angle to take good pictures of the port than the Monument’s park itself. Hehe. 😉
